Bernina Convention

Thursday, August 18th, 2011

Bernina Convention was just a few weeks ago in San Antonio, Texas. Sandi from the Tacoma store and Robin from the Puyallup store both attended this education-packed event. The most exciting new thing that Bernina debuted was their new Bernina 5 series! Sandi was lucky enough to take a class on the new machine and she loved it: “The new Bernina 550QE, which I sewed on, is geared toward quilters and comes with the Bernina Stitch Regulator (BSR), walking foot, and 1/4″ quilting foot… everything you need to quilt up a storm!”

There is also a new sewing and embroidery machine coming: the Bernina 580. We don’t have much info yet, but I am sure it will be fabulous. The ladies also got to preview some amazing new embroidery designs like the new 3D Embroidery Designs and Christmas Collections from OESD. Plus Bernina has 2 new attachments coming out – a Spanish hemstitching foot and a needle punch attachment for the rotary hook machines. Look for all of these exciting new things in stores this Fall.

Happy Sewing!

Live from Brother Convention in Nashville!

Wednesday, August 3rd, 2011

Nashville is really hot, and it is not just the weather. The new Brother 2012 products are amazing, and I wanted to share some of them with everyone as soon as possible! Here are the highlights:

New Brother Quattro 2

New Top of the Line Quattro 2, NV6700D:

  • Quattro 2 has all of the features of the Quattro 1 including the original Upgrade 1 that features scanning and built-in resizing, plus all the new features from the Upgrade 2! (See below for Upgrade 2 details).
  • A new, improved Advanced Super View (ASV) HD LCD touch screen. It is actually brighter and clearer then the current one (I couldn’t believe it either).

Already have a Quattro? Both of the new Upgrades work on your machine too! Are you ready to take your Quattro to the next level of sewing and embroidery fun?

Color Shuffling

Quattro® Software Upgrade Premium Pack II:

  • My Custom Design™ feature allows you draw and auto-digitize on the sewing machine screen without needing a computer – AMAZING!
  • Includes a 10″ Pen Tablet that connects directly to the Quattro and makes sketching designs, editing and signing your creations easier than ever before – SO COOL!
  • Exclusive Color Shuffling™ Function allows you to pick a color and shuffle between possible choices to match the color. Used when you have the perfect design, but the wrong colors for your fabric or style. Just tell it what color you want to match and then choose from a random selection, gradient, vivid, or soft color palette. Use with the onscreen scanning to match designs to fabric perfectly. Check out the video here.
  • 10 new embroidery designs
  • 2 new embroidery fonts

Quattro® Software Upgrade Premium Pack III:

  • PATTERN CONNECTION FEATURE! Wow, where do I begin? How would you like to place any embroidery design or border seamlessly without having to use templates or thread marks? How would you like to do it with the exclusive InnovEye® camera? Now you can!! Using two Snowman markers you can align designs by corners or center points on each end in any direction. Everyone who owns a Quattro will want this. Works with any hoops and works with any pattern shapes. This is not just for borders – it is for connecting any design, and makes your hoop size endless!
  • Includes 4″ x 12″ Continuous Border Hoop

Project Runway Bling Machine

Tuesday, August 2nd, 2011

Did you see the crystal-encrusted sewing machine that Brother will be awarding to this season’s winner of  Project Runway?

This machine was unveiled today at the Brother Convention and will truly be a “shining” symbol of the winner’s achievement.

Wouldn’t it be a fun machine to have?

It makes me wonder how long it took to place each of the stones with such precision. The lettering on the machine is readable and even the buttons are all dressed up.

So if you are wondering what machine they dressed up for the event, this is the Project Runway Limited Addition NS40.  In its original form, the NS40 models a fashionable shade of subtle pink and it has functions and features that make it easy to create beautiful designs of your own. With 40 built-in stitches, one-step auto-sized buttonholes, and smooth free-motion sewing, this machine can just about do it all.

In addition to the NS40, there are 6 other machines in the Project Runway line. Prices for these feature-packed machines start at a very affordable $300.

The newest addition to the Project Runway machine line is a great serger that is very easy to thread and runs very smoothly: The 5234PRW.  I really like this machine! It has a free arm and even comes with a generous, extra-large extension table that also opens up to hold whatever notions or feet you may want to have on hand.

You can see all of the machines in the Project Runway line on the Brother website.

Who knows, maybe one of us will win a machine like this someday!
