The Perfect Foot for the Right Situation! Using the Perfect Foot for the Right Situation!

I was recently working on a project just for the fun of it. I thought I had planned for it, but when I got to the last step I discovered that I really needed a specialty foot! Boy, was I glad that I had a great variety of specialty feet for my machine (I think I have every foot made for my machine, in fact). You never know when you'll need one. And let's face it: I'm a foot junkie.

I was working on a bucket bag project using the new Viking EPIC (it's sooooo cool!). The top of the bag had a corded drawstring that was secured with a self fabric slide. The fabric was wrapped around both loose ends of the cord and stitched down the middle, in-between the cords.

Since the instructions said just to stitch, I thought, "OK." But when I went to stitch it was apparent that there was no way the stitch could be made tight enough with a regular sewing foot. That put my wheels a-turnin' as to how to complete that step with the best results.

A-ha! I had a Twin Welting Foot! Hooray! The thing that is so great about this foot is that it has two generous tunnels on the underside, one of each side of center needle position.

This made it easy to stitch down the fabric slider right in-between my cording. Problem overcome! Give this technique a try the next time you want to secure the ends of cording. It's pretty slick!

Situations like these are just another reason that I'm so glad I have all of the specialty feet for my machine. If you're a foot junkie like me and have a Brother or Baby Lock machine you'll love the foot kit from Baby Lock (remember that Brother and Baby Lock feet are interchangeable between brands). It's packed full of all sorts of great feet! Now, if you have a Dream Machine or Destiny there is a brand-new kit from Baby Lock and it is so very pretty! It includes 30 feet that did not come with your machine. Plus it comes in a very lovely teal-colored organizer bag. Gotta have it!

Enjoy your sewing adventures,
