The goal of Serger Cafe is to provide projects that familiarize you with the features of your serger and offer projects that demonstrate how much more sergers do than seams or edges.

Table runners are always fun to create and make well-received gifts at any time of the year. The center portion of this Martha Pullen table runner features fabric strips (made with the 1-3/4" belt loop binder) woven into a lovely lattice design. The end blocks are quilted with a Deco Chainstitch and the binding uses the quick and easy method with fusible thread. The three contrasting colors in the lattice pick up the colors used in the main fabric to create a beautifully cohesive look.

If you have always admired heirloom sewing this is a perfect 1st project. All you need is a 4 thread serger and with that we will make a delicate pillowcase with a 6 inch band of beautiful lace edgings, entredeux and insertion laces. The ease with which your serger attaches lace to lace and lace to fabric will surprise you. The vintage look pillowcase will add a touch of elegance to any bedroom or make an impressive gift for a very lucky family member or friend.

Looking at the quilt you can't help but smile. It's beautiful and I think everyone will have a lot of fun playing with the colors for the backing, ruffles and more. We will use the gathering foot and gather with the coverstitch. In addition, the ruffle edges will be finished with the either the wave stitch or a deco 3 thread overlock. The binding is a self binding and finishes quickly or you may use the wave stitch to finish the edge. This was originally designed by the talented Pam Mahshie, with Babylock, for National Serger Month.

This cute upcycled sweatshirt is a perfect to practice and learn how to rework a ready made garment. You will also embellish with either the Deco Wave or Deco 3 thread wide, learn more or new techniques while working with ribbing and knit and adding a new button loop/closure. Mine will be a vest but it could also be a jacket. You also have the option of making the barrel shaped buttons which I will demonstrate.
