Quilting

Simon Haskins' Sunshine 4 All: The Leukemia Quilt Project

Many of you have met Simon Haskins, son of Jenny Haskins. Both are very talented, creating beautiful embroidery and quilt designs for us to use in order to create our own stunning creations. Simon was recently diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. This is a very rare form of blood cancer. He is fighting the battle with determination, strength and a strong thought towards others who battling are or will battle this disease themselves.

Simon’s wish is to raise awareness about blood cancers and hopefully raise money for the Leukemia Foundation with hopes of one day finding a cure. To that end, Simon has created a website, http://sunshine4all.com/. He is asking those who wish to participate to make a quilt block (and yes, of course you can make more than one if you wish) which will be used to make quilts. These quilts will then be auctioned off to raise money or given to a child with the same disease.

The awareness color for Leukemia is orange, so Simon has requested that the primary color used be orange with splashes of pink or yellow. There are some general guidelines on his webpage, but generally the blocks should be 8.5” square so that they are a finished size of 8”. They can be pieced or embroidered. He wants all blocks signed in the lower left corner.

You can bring your finished blocks to any Quality Sewing & Vacuum and we will make sure they get to Simon.

With much thanks,

Lauri Kendall
