What is an edge stitch foot for?
A blade in the center of the foot rides against a fabric fold or finished edge. You keep the fold against the blade and the needle stitches a fixed distance from it, which is what gives topstitching a straight, even line.
What stitch settings should I use?
Straight stitch with the feed dog raised and a stitch length around 2, adjusted for the material. Move the needle position left or right to set how far the stitching sits from the edge.
Can it stitch in the ditch?
Yes. Run the blade down the seam line and the needle follows the ditch. That is the usual way to secure a binding from the front without the stitching wandering off the seam.
Does it work for attaching lace and tape?
Yes. Guide the lace or tape edge against the blade and the stitching runs parallel to it. The same setup reinforces a raw edge before it gets enclosed.
