The Bernina L 860 is a 2/3/4 thread overlock machine with a color touchscreen, one-step air threading, and Micro Thread Control. It handles knits, wovens, and decorative threads at speeds up to 1,500 stitches per minute. Designed and engineered in Switzerland.

One-Step BERNINA Air Threader

The exclusive air threading system threads both loopers in one step using the foot control. The machine automatically positions the loopers for threading, so there is no need to turn the handwheel or find the right position manually. Both hands stay free during the process.

Quick Needle Threading

The integrated needle threader and automatic needle stop-up position make thread changes fast. One-path threading with color coding lets you switch between overlock, rolled hem, and flatlock stitches without re-routing the thread path.

Color Touchscreen Operation

The centrally located color touchscreen handles stitch selection, individual stitch settings, and memory access. A Creative Sewing Consultant and Stitch Optimizer provide guidance, while helpful animations walk you through each function. Two operating modes are available: Expert Mode for direct access to all settings, and Guided Mode with step-by-step instructions. Both modes automatically set thread tension, stitch length, and differential feed when you select a stitch.

Total Stitch Control

Save up to 100 stitches in Personal Memory. Adjust stitch length, differential feed, and thread tension while sewing. The Micro Thread Control (mtc) knob lets you fine-tune the overedge thread amount for clean overlock, flatlock, rolled hems, and decorative edges.

Free-Hand System and Workspace

The knee-operated Free-Hand System (FHS) raises and lowers the presser foot, keeping both hands on the fabric. The L 860 offers more room to the right of the needle and more height than any other BERNINA overlocker. The slide-on extension table adds surface area for larger projects, and the presser foot swings out for easy needle access. Bright LED lighting covers the sewing area.

Stitch Types

The L 860 sews with 2, 3, or 4 threads and offers overlock, flatlock, rolled hem, blanket, and wrapped overlock stitches, all selectable through the touchscreen. Stitch width reaches up to 9 mm for decorative work. The included Overlock Accessory Set adds a Beading and Sequin Foot, Piping Feet (small and large), Cording Foot, and Decorative Thread Spool Pin.
