Bernette B44 Funlock: Overlock Sewing for Beginners
The Bernette B44 Funlock is a 2/3/4-thread overlocker with 15 built-in stitches and a straightforward setup for new serger users. Color-coded threading guides, a below-knife drive for one-handed stitch width adjustment, and an infinitely adjustable differential feed keep operation simple while producing professional seam finishes at up to 1,300 stitches per minute.
Color-Coded Threading
The open thread path uses colored markings to guide each thread from spool to needle and looper. A separate needle threader and lower looper threading mechanism simplify the process further, removing one of the biggest hurdles for new serger users.
15 Stitches with Rolled Hem Capability
The 15 overlock stitches cover standard seaming, edge finishing, and decorative work across 2, 3, and 4-thread configurations. Overlock stitch widths range from 3 to 7mm, and the machine produces rolled hems at 1.5mm for lightweight fabric finishing.
Adjustable Differential Feed
The differential feed adjusts from 0.6 to 2.0 and can be changed while sewing. Lower settings prevent stretching on knit fabrics. Higher settings gather fabric for deliberate ruffling and decorative effects. The below-knife drive lets you adjust stitch width with one hand.
Built-In Accessory Storage
The most-used overlock accessories store directly inside the looper cover, keeping them within reach during projects. A separate accessory box holds additional tools. The included waste collector catches trimmed seam allowances as the knife cuts during sewing.
Speed and Visibility
The B44 sews at up to 1,300 stitches per minute and cuts through thicker fabrics in a single pass. A bright LED light illuminates the needle area for clear visibility on dark or detailed fabrics.
