Bernina L 890: Overlock and Coverstitch Performance
The Bernina L 890 handles overlock, coverstitch, and chainstitch functions in a single machine. Designed and engineered in Switzerland, it pairs air-powered threading with a color touch screen interface for efficient operation on knits, wovens, and specialty fabrics. The generous work area and quiet motor make it suited for garment construction, home décor, and decorative finishing.
One-Step Air Threader
Press the foot control and air moves threads through both loopers automatically. The machine positions the loopers correctly without turning the handwheel, keeping both hands free to manage thread placement.
Generous Work Area
The L 890 provides 5⅝ inches to the right of the needle and more height than any other Bernina serger. The included extension table expands the work surface, and the freearm handles sleeves, cuffs, and other tubular items.
Color Touch Screen Control
The centrally located touch screen displays stitch selection, tension settings, and step-by-step animations. Guided Mode walks through setup for beginners, while Expert Mode provides direct access to all parameters. Adjust stitch length, differential feed, and thread tension while sewing.
Total Stitch Control
Save up to 100 custom stitches in Personal Memory. The mtc (Micro Thread Control) dial adjusts overedge thread coverage with a simple turn. Set needle stop position up or down, and modify cutting width or any stitch parameter mid-project.
Thread Configurations
Sew with 2, 3, 4, or 5 threads depending on the stitch type. Overlock stitches finish edges and seam in one pass. Coverstitches create stretch hems. Chainstitches provide durable seaming. Combo stitches layer overlock and chainstitch for maximum strength.
Speed and Precision
The motor reaches 1,350 stitches per minute and remains quiet at all speeds. Program maximum and minimum speed limits through the touch screen. Single-stitch control allows precise curves and corners at slow speeds.
Color-Coded Threading
One-path threading with color-coded guides makes switching between overlock, coverstitch, and combo modes straightforward. On-screen animations show each threading step for the selected stitch type.
Hands-Free Operation
The Free Hand System (FHS) raises and lowers the presser foot with knee pressure, keeping hands on the fabric. Press the foot control heel to raise or lower the needle by a half stitch. The presser foot swings out for easy needle access.
