The Brother Essence Innov-ís VM5200 is a sewing, quilting and embroidery combination machine with 715 built-in sewing stitches, 318 embroidery designs and an 8" x 12" maximum embroidery area. An 11.25-inch workspace and a 7-inch LCD touch screen handle large projects, and it sews and embroiders at up to 1,050 stitches per minute.
8" x 12" Embroidery Area and 318 Designs
The embroidery unit gives an 8" x 12" maximum embroidery area, enough room for jacket backs, quilt blocks and large monograms without splitting a design. The built-in library holds 318 embroidery designs, 10 frame shapes and 14 frame stitches, and iBroidery.com adds more than 5,000 purchasable patterns.
715 Built-in Stitches and 14 Buttonholes
Sewing runs on 715 built-in stitches, including utility, decorative and quilting stitches, plus 14 buttonhole styles and 5 sewing lettering fonts. Stitch width adjusts up to 7 mm and length up to 5 mm, and My Custom Stitch lets you draw a stitch of your own on the screen.
7" LCD Touch Screen
The 7-inch color touch screen shows design previews, editing tools and on-screen help with tutorials. Drag-and-drop editing, curved text and letter spacing control all happen on the screen, and multiple lines of embroidered text can be repositioned with the arrow keys.
11.25" Workspace and 10" LED Lighting
There is 11.25 inches of workspace to the right of the needle with 5 inches of depth, so a rolled quilt has somewhere to go. 10 inches of LED lighting runs along the arm at up to 50% brighter than most Brother machines.
Quilting Features and Free-Motion Setup
The free motion open toe quilting foot "O" and automatic drop feed set the machine up for free-motion work without a separate plate change. The included knee lifter frees both hands, and the pivot function holds the needle down and lifts the foot when you stop, which keeps appliqué corners square.
Automatic Presser Foot and Thread Handling
Automatic presser foot raise and lower runs after each trim, and Automatic Height Adjustment keeps feeding even when the fabric changes thickness at a seam. The automatic needle threader and automatic thread cutter handle the rest, with thread trimmed between embroidery color blocks on its own.

What does the automatic presser foot actually do?
The presser foot raises and lowers on its own after each thread trim, so you are not reaching for the lever between seams. Automatic Height Adjustment keeps the feed even when the fabric changes thickness, which is what stops a machine stalling or skipping where a thick seam crosses under the foot.
