Bernina Piping Foot #38
The Bernina Piping Foot #38 is sometimes called the "uneven foot" because the right side of the sole is higher than the left. This offset design lets the foot ride over fabric layers of different thicknesses without tilting, which is exactly what happens when sewing piping into a seam.
More Than Just Piping
While this foot is ideal for creating narrow-to-medium piping, the uneven sole also makes it useful for sewing on thick ribbons, hook-and-loop tape, and zippers where one side of the seam is thicker than the other. Any time you are stitching next to a raised edge or bulk, this foot keeps the stitching line level and the fabric feeding evenly.
