Brother AIR1800 Air Threading Serger
The AIR1800 threads its loopers on a blast of air, which removes the step that stops most people using a serger as often as they mean to. It runs 2, 3 or 4 threads at up to 1,300 stitches per minute, with differential feed for knits and a cutting knife that disengages when an edge should be wrapped rather than trimmed.
One-touch jet-air threading
Threading ports connect to the end of each looper by tubes. Press the air button and a blast of air carries the thread through the loopers, so a color change does not mean feeding thread through each looper guide by hand.
Differential feed, 0.7mm to 2.0mm
The differential feed dial controls how the two sets of feed dogs move relative to each other. A lower setting stops stretch knits from growing or waving as they feed, and a higher setting gathers the edge deliberately for a lettuce finish.
Flatlock, overlock and rolled hem
The AIR1800 runs on 2, 3 or 4 threads and produces flatlock, overlock and rolled hem stitches. That covers seam construction, edge finishing and decorative hems on knits and stretch fabrics that are awkward to finish on a standard sewing machine.
LED lit work area
Built-in LED lighting keeps the needle and the cutting line visible on dark fabric, where a serger is hardest to follow. Stitch type is chosen on a dial rather than a menu.
Quick-change levers and a safety sensor
Quick-change levers switch the rolled hem setting and engage or disengage the cutting knife, so an edge can be wrapped without trimming it. An error LED lights if a cover is open or the presser foot is raised, and the machine will not run until that is corrected.
